You’re probably wondering what a music recording facility is doing in the Eurocam brochure. That’s easy. Over the past decade, our mobile unit Motormusic and its sister Serendipitous – which concentrates on classical music – have accumulated the know-how to record any kind of music on any kind of location, including soundtracks.
Motormusic and Serendipitous are committed to creating the best possible studio conditions in any venue. This dedication has yielded an impressive portfolio over the years. In cooperation with Alfacam, we’ve captured the live ambiance of the Vienna Philharmonic’s New Year’s concerts, and we’ve recorded opera in prestigious houses such as the Moscow Bolshoi Theatre, the Opernhaus Zürich, or the Teatro Massimo in Palermo. But we’ve also captured opera in outdoor venues such as the antique Herodion theatre at the foot of the Athens Acropolis. We’ve recorded famous orchestras – such as the Berlin Philharmonic – but also the world’s most reputed rock stars, in whatever location they choose to play. We’ve done Faithless, we’ve done The Simple Minds. We’ve recorded Sting, the Black Eyed Peas, and Paul McCartney at the Rock in Rio Lisboa Festival.
More advantageous to prospective film partners, however, is the fact that we have become the exclusive recording partner of the Brussels Philharmonic, an acclaimed symphony orchestra with a strong pedigree in sound track recording – its best-known achievement being the Golden Globe-awarded OST to Martin Scorsese’s motion picture The Aviator.
The Brussels Philharmonic is an unusually versatile orchestra. In the early years of its existence – it was founded in 1935 – it premiered new music by Strawinsky and Messiaen, performing under the baton of illustrious composer-conductors such as Prokofiev and Bartok. The orchestra enjoys an international reputation, with recurrent invitations to such prestigious venues as the Cité de la Musique and the Salle Pleyel in Paris, as well as the Amsterdam Concertgebouw.
This last decade, the Philharmonic’s taste for “new music” has extended to film scores. The orchestra played at the 2005 Berlin Filmfestival, and since 2000 it features prominently at the annual Flanders International Film Festival in Ghent. On October 23rd, the Brussels Philharmonic played the jubilee edition of the World Soundtrack Awards, an event which continues to attract the world’s major film composers. Among the guests this year were Gabriel Yared (The Talented Mr. Ripley), Angelo Badalamenti (Twin Peaks), Howard Shore (Lord Of The Rings), Craig Armstrong (Love Actually), Stephen Warbeck (Shakespeare In Love), Gustavo Santaolalla (Motorcycle Diaries), Alberto Iglesias (Todo Sobre Mi Madre) and Elliot Goldenthal (Frida). It won’t surprise you that we captured the World Soundtrack Awards concert for release on CD and DVD.
The Brussels Philharmonic has an additional trump card. The Flagey complex – its interbellum hall of residence – used to be the first Belgian broadcasting building. Erected between 1935 and 1938 (in a modernist style which lends the building the outlook of an ocean steamer), it is reputed for its unsurpassable acoustics and ideally suited to record any type of orchestral music.
But recording music is not all that we do. Our Clicks and Cuts outfit is equipped (and experienced) to handle your audio post production (voice-over; bruitage/foley; etc.) up to the level of the pre-mixing stage. We’ve mainly worked for television in this capacity, but earlier this year, Gust van den Berghe’s movie Little baby jesus of Flanders – which we post-produced –was selected for inclusion in the Cannes Film Festival.
In sum: there is no sound or noise in your movies that we cannot make, record, edit, or provide for. We’ve created and maintained allegiances (and friendships) with the greatest musicians in the world; if necessary, we are happy to introduce you to composers, arrangers, or conductors. For – and this continues to be our brand motto – no project is too small or too large for us.
